In this 2000 watt inverter generator comparison we review and compare two of the most popular inverter generators on the market today. Both are sound investments for anyone looking for a lightweight, powerful and quiet generator. Perfect for use with your RV, when camping or tailgating. Whatever your needs, these two generators are more than capable. But which one is best? Let’s begin: Yamaha EF2000IS vs Honda EU2000I.
Honda EU2000i vs Yamaha EF2000is
Note that…
At the moment, 2000 watts of Yamaha and Honda generators both are not being sold on amazon. That is why we put links of 2200 watts versions of the generators.
Almost everything is the same, just the power is a bit more.

1. Dimensions and Weight
2000 watt inverter generators are designed to pack a punch while being lightweight and highly portable. They should be easy to take with you wherever you go, should that be camping, to a work site or tailgating. So just how big are these generators?
- Yamaha EF2000IS- 19.3 x 11.0 x 17.9 inches, 44.1 pounds (dry weight)
- Honda EU2000I – 20.2 x 11.4 x 16.7 inches, 45.6 pounds (dry weight)
With such a negligible difference, round one is a draw.
2. Power
Lets face it, a generator is used for power. So this an important factor in the Yamaha EF2000IS vs Honda EU2000I comparison.Â
Both generators produce the same level of power at 2000 maximum watts (16.7 amps) and 1600 running watts (13.3 amps). Both inverter generators have the benefit of producing clean power. The process of inverting direct current to alternating current produces what’s known as a true sine wave. This means that your sensitive electrical appliances such as computers and televisions are protected and can be used safely. Round two is also a draw.
3. Power Outlets
OK so both generators produce the same power, but what can you actually connect? You want to be able to connect your standard AC appliances but also be able to charge a battery for your RV right? Well round three is another draw. Both the Yamaha EF2000ISÂ and the Honda EU2000I have two 120V AC outlets and one 12V 8A DC outlet.
4. Yamaha EF2000IS vs Honda EU2000I: Sound Comparison (Noise Level)
The noise a generator makes is typically a very decisive factor in the selection process. Who wants to have to shout to their friends and family over the noise of their generator? You want to be able to sleep in while your generator runs your AC unit right? Sound levels are measured in decibels, and if you want to learn more about how the decibel scale works, see our quietest generators page.
So which generator is the quietest? Drum roll… well it depends. According to the manufacturer specs, at 25% load the Yamaha EF2000IS takes the prize producing only 51.5 dB compared to the Honda EU2000I’s 53 dB. However at 100% load, the results are reversed. The Honda EU2000I edges the Yamaha EF2000IS 59 dB to 61 dB.Â
5. Fuel consumption
Other than noise and of course price, one of the most important factors when comparing generators is their fuel consumption. You want to have the most fuel efficient inverter generator possible. If one generator uses dramatically more fuel than the other it makes the decision pretty easy. Both are efficient generators, capable of altering their engine speed to match the power demands you require. This allows for both to have high fuel efficiency.

Running time at 25% load |
10.5 hrs |
8.1 hrs |
Fuel consumption rate at 25% load |

For fuel  efficiency, the results are very similar. However the Yamaha 2000 watt inverter generator edges out the Honda.
The round five winner is the Yamaha EF2000IS.
6. Operation
All the different specifications are important, but you also want an inverter generator that’s easy to operate. You want an easy start every time and minimal maintenance.
Both models use a very reliable manual pulling recoil start. Both also have low oil level warnings and overload protection. This means maintenance is made easy because you know when to replace the oils and you don’t have to worry about damaging the generator due to overload. Finally, both are also capable of being configured with a second matching model in parallel. This means you can double your output very easily. What could be more convenient than that?
7. Price
Being inverter generators, both these models are more expensive than a power comparative portable generator. However, this is due to the many benefits that they have over portable generators.
Both these generators come at a very comparable price. Though the Yamaha has a slight edge over the Honda. Both can be conveniently purchased online with no hassle shipping.
Yamaha EF2000iSÂ vs Honda EU2000i
Which is the winner?
With almost identical specifications, there is no clear favorite between these two generators. Indeed a debate has raged for years as to which is the better choice. In our eyes however, the Yamaha does have a slight edge due to its superior fuel consumption and slightly lower price.  If you have any questions about the Yamaha EF2000IS vs Honda EU2000I, please leave them below.
